Samurai Ribbon

Japanese beautiful ribbon

SANADAHIMO is one of the Japanese traditional fabrics. And its name was given from samurai family SANADA: famous Ninja family, as it has been said that they developed the techniques of weaving the Ribbons in Edo period.

SAMURAI loved to use this close-woven ribbon-like Ribbons in many occasions and purposes- from daily uses to decorations. For example, they dressed up their armor suits and helmets, or tied up important things to their waist with it. Also it was used for women's kimonos, handbags, and for wrapping something fragile or gifts.

In some samurai films, you could see that this Ribbon had been used for keeping precious works of art, scrolls (rolled books), or daily tools.

kakejiku

Ribbons are very similar in shape to Sanadahimo. But they are definitely different. They are woven so close and tight that they are very thick and firm.
So you could use them repeatedly, not like ribbons.

BASICALLY the Ribbons are woven only by natural cotton. But for the use of tea ceremony tools, silk is often mixed with cotton. As both yarns are quite fine and easy to snap, we carefully do the weaving operation like to ‘knock’ the wefts into the warps.

TODAY, Sanadahimo can be freely and widely used in our daily life.
Not only being one of the packing and decoration tools, but also valuable as a beautiful craft itself. Sanadahimo is loved and used for various purposes or occasions.

Why don’t you use this wonderful Ribbon more fashionably?
...for your shoes, clothes, bags, or your hair decorations.
We hope you would enjoy these lovely artworks as you like.

Company policy

We are confident and proud that we keep high quality of SANADAHIMO- we choose the best materials and weave them carefully.
Being made so firm and tight, it surely holds the shapes. If you tie and untie it a hundred times, it'll keep its beautiful shape at all.
There are few skilled and experienced workers who can complete a roll of string. This is why it takes long time and is expensive.
We have the honor of having been chosen by many customers especially in Kyoto, who have very strict eyes on the traditional arts.
Now you may touch, feel and make sure the 'real one'.
